Monsoon Days Around Sasan Gir

There's something magnetic about the monsoon in Gir. It pulls you into the wild with the promise of raw beauty, quiet mystery and untamed landscapes. The dust of summer settles, the streams around Sasan Gir begin to run again, and the entire forest turns a deep, glowing green almost overnight.

At Sorath Gadh Resort, monsoon mornings begin with the sound of rain on the roof and mist sitting low over the open fields along Haripur-Bhalchhel Road. It's a very different Gir from the dry, dusty safari season - slower, greener, and much quieter, since the jungle safari itself stays closed through most of the season.

What There Is To Do

With the Gir Jungle Trail closed from 16th June to 15th October each year, monsoon visits are less about lion sightings and more about simply being close to the forest. Guests staying with us often spend their mornings on village walks nearby, watching the fields turn green, or simply sitting out on the veranda with a cup of tea and watching the rain roll in over the hills.

The Devalia Safari Park, a smaller fenced safari area, stays open through most of the year (except Wednesdays), so it's still possible to catch a glimpse of the Asiatic Lion even during the rains, on days when the weather allows.

A Quieter Kind of Stay

Monsoon is also the resort's quietest, most peaceful season. Fewer travellers means more time by yourself with the sound of rain, home-style Kathiyawadi food, and a campfire once the showers ease off in the evening. For anyone who prefers Gir without the crowds, this is the season to visit.
